Pregnant at 39!

By

Our son, Dominic, turned 16 in May 2012. My husband and I decided to tell him about my pregnancy the night before the 4th of July. At 11:00 pm on July 3rd, we brought him into our bedroom and show him a letter that confirms my pregnancy. He sits on the bed and reads it quietly. In the meantime, my husband has his video camera “on” as we wanted to capture Dominic’s reaction on camera. Dominic is shocked! He is surprised but very happy. Then he looks at us and asks: “Is this a joke?” I said: “No, it isn’t a joke, Darling. This is true. Are you happy?” And of course, he replies that he is very happy. Then, we showed him the ultrasound image. Our son had wanted a sibling since he was 6 years old, so we are only 10 years behind (LOL!). Well, better late than never, right?

The next day, we celebrated the 4th of July, and we had a BBQ lunch with the family at home. Unfortunately, my dad and my father-in-law both passed away of a heart attack before the age of 50. We really wish our dads were still alive today as they never had a chance to enjoy their grandchildren. Anyway, the whole family is ecstatic about my pregnancy. They were shocked since it took a while for the follow-up child. In fact, I never did share with family members about my blocked fallopian tubes when I was diagnosed 2 ½ years ago. I didn’t want them to worry about me. I assume they just figured that I was not going to have another child especially as our son got older. So, for the 4th of July lunch, we had our son, Dominic, make the announcement. He said: “I am going to have another sibling!” They were flabbergasted. Then, I passed around the ultrasound photo and then the pregnancy confirmation report.

I told them that this is truly a “miracle child” growing inside me. Then, I shared my story about how we always wanted another child, but was never able to conceive…until now. They were shocked when I told them about the blocked fallopian tubes. This is definitely a gift from God. Miracles truly happen.

I am wondering if my fallopian tubes are still blocked. I truly believe that many of the wellness practices I have incorporated into my lifestyle have helped me conceive this child. For starters, I am no longer commuting to West Los Angeles (a stressful commute I was doing for 4 years). Also, I am no longer working in a corporate environment with all of the “office politics”. And then, I gave myself a break from participating in my professional, voluntary and service organizations. I have focused on myself since September 2011. Today is August 2012, and I am feeling so much better physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. My body is more relaxed. I do believe in the Mind-Body-Spirit connection. Developing Wellness-Spring has been a personal journey for me.
